Children and Elderly Gamelan Players Take Action

Children and Elderly Gamelan Players Take Action1Appearance of children gamelan players deserves to be thumbed up. They are not only good at playing Balinese traditional gamelan, but also creative and good at dancing. They make mebarung (play together in a face-to-face position) performance with senior artists and they never hesitate, even seems straightforward. All of the materials are presented thoroughly and well.
It is the appearance of two different ages of gamelan troupes, namely the Werda Shanti Elderly Gamelan Troupe with Kindergarten children gamelan troupe from Mertayasa hamlet, North Denpasar on Ratna Kanda Stage, Bali Art Center in the Bali Arts Festival (BAF), Saturday (Jul. 4). As the envoy of the city of Denpasar, this gamelan troupe made attractive show so that it drew the attention of spectators consisting of children and adults.

Both troupes were able to entertain as well as present their gamelan composition beautifully. The Kindergarten Gamelan Troupe from Mertayasa hamlet came first with the performance of creation gamelan composition entitled Gudip. Then, it was resumed with two other compositions namely the Rare Kelangon creative dance and Mececimpedan games.
These young gamelan musicians were able to make good performance with full of jokes and laughter. During the five-month preparation, in fact the children are able to master the materials well. “In providing the material, I did not want to impose them. In other words, it was adjusted to their age, so that they did not get bored or even made them stressed because the material is too hard,” said Komang Ardana serving as the coach.
In the meantime, the Elderly Gamelan Troupe appeared so smooth and soulful. At their age, they no longer displayed ferocity as they did at younger age. Nevertheless, they still presented harmonious gamelan music by playing subtle tones. For example, at the opening session they came with creation gamelan music that sounded so smooth and intact.

In the presentation, they also played the Raja Pala composition. Although their face looked wrinkled, their action can stimulate children to more actively pursue the Balinese arts. While smiling, the taksu (divine vibration) of the old artist seemed still inherent in them. Their action received tremendous appreciation from the audience including the Deputy Mayor of Denpasar IGN Jaya Negara, Regional Secretary Rai Iswara and relevant agencies.
Second appearance of this gamelan troupe proved the expertise of the leadership of Denpasar Mayor Rai Mantra and Deputy Jaya Negara in fostering the artists. When the other regions are difficult to produce the artists, Denpasar is even flooded with the artists and the elderly artists are still given space to show off their creativity.www.bali-travelnews.com
