Cliff Temple of Tegallinggah

As a culture reserve, the Cliff Temple of Tegallinggah is one of the historic tourist attractions. Located at Tegallinggah, Bedulu village, Blahbatuh, Gianyar, this ancient site is also adjacent to the Pakerisan River currently including in the world cultural heritage. To reach the location, it will take visitors approximately 30 minutes from the capital of Denpasar by motor vehicle. When going to this object, visitors will pass through dozens of stairs with a view of fish and shrimp ponds adorned with lotus plants and water lettuce. Splashing waters along the stairs make the atmosphere very cool. Meanwhile, large trees and hanging roots make the panorama look beautiful.
Uniqueness of this ancient site is visible on the temple carvings attached to the cliff wall. On the wall sit two very ancient temples. Each temple has three phalli symbolizing the gods of trinity namely Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. On the same rock, precisely on the right part of the temple there are 4 niches and 3 others on the left. Besides, there are also 8 niche of larger size. In the meantime, 3 additional niches can be found at the location separated by the Pakerisan River.
Around the temple can be found some ruins of temples that have been damaged by objects. Then, there is a cave and place to deliver canangsari oblation. Some showers can also be found here where they are used for religious ceremonies and melukat or self-purificatory rite. At the shower, visitors can wash the face just to feel the freshness of the falling water on the sidelines of the cliff.
Chief of Tegallinggah customary village I Wayan Biata said the object was maintained by the archeological museum of Bedulu under supervision of Tegallinggah customary village. “Based on information from the archeological museum, the temple was discovered by a Dutch researcher named Krijsman. At that time, he was excavating the historic sites and one of which was this object,” he said.
He delivered that the road access to the object was under process of improvement and would be paved with hot mix asphalt by the Gianyar government. “At this moment, many visitors, chiefly foreign visitors, have begun to arrive. Meanwhile, the most frequent visitors are researchers, the media and students. Local visitors especially teenagers also often visited the object.
