A Selat villager finds historic object
Seven rustic blades of selonding gamelan in ancient jar
The journey to the home of the man finding the object, I Ketut Nada, 70, must pass through an ascending and sharp path. He accidentally found the unique object. When he was about to plant the clove seedlings at his garden, his hoe paused as touching a hard object. Having been seen closely, in fact he found a cracked jar as hit by hoe. It contains seven blades of former selonding musical instrument in rusty condition. “I have no special feelings when finding the historical objects. Suddenly, I found them when digging a hole in the garden with the depth of 40 centimeters to be planted with clove seedlings. I found them five months ago and stored at home. It contains seven rusty iron blades like selonding musical instrument collected in an old jar,” said Nada, Sunday (May 31).
Accompanied by his wife, Ni Ketut Sugindri, 70, Nada does not want if the historic objects are requested by the government. He believes that during the five months there is no incident at his home. The historical objects are believed to be the surrogate of his ancestors. He even already consulted to a medium to know about what to do with the unique objects alleged to have reached hundreds of years old. “I just put the heritage at home. When consulted to a medium, the psychical realm told that the discoverer is given the authority to use it,” added Nada.
Finding of the seven pieces of iron rod has the characteristics of rusted scrap metal with two small holes at the bottom and top end. Allegedly the hole serves as location to put bamboo rod as a buffer of the selonding musical instrument. In the meantime, the old jar is dominated by dark brown color without containing Balinese carving identity. Nada claimed that at Selat village there are never any findings or history on the making of selonding gamelan music instrument in the past. “There is no history on the making of gamelan here, our residents at Selat are dominated by farmers,” he said.
