The Makepung Lampit of Jembrana is different from other buffalo races btoth because it takes place in muddy rice paddies and also because the riders do not use chariots but rather, ride atop the lampit (a farming tool used to flatten the soil in the paddy fields before planting the rice. The Jembranese buffalo race is a long-standing tradition of the agrarian society of this area and has recently been reinvigorated by members of the Jembrana Photographers Community (KFJ). Hundreds of photographers from various regions in Indonesia and overseas recently came to Jembrana specifically to hunt for buffalo racing photo opportunities in the rice fields.http://bali-travelnews.com/
