Civet Coffee of Kintamani Penetrates Export MarketBangli County, especially the area of Kintamani is not only famous for its production of vegetables and tangerine but for the last few years has developed a reputation for its civet coffee production as well. Civet coffee is produced not only for domestic consmption but is increasingly popular in cafes around Bali and shows great promise as a valuable business, as attested by one of Landih village<s community leaders, I Wayan Jamin.
“Civet coffee enthusiasts are not just from Bali, many foreigners enjoy this beverage too.  In fact the market for this unique coffee is mainly outside of Bali, mostly in Korea, Japan and the Netherlands” he said. Jamin added that generally those who seek out civet coffee are coffee aficianados who are looking for a new sensation in their coffee sipping experience. Civet coffee is called such because the beans are recuperated from civet droppings. The coffee beans are believed to have a different flavor after having passed through the digestive tract of civets.
“We are already exporting civet coffee. To make this product more appealing to consumers, exported civet coffee is certified halal and also certified by the Association of Kintamani and Indonesian Organic Coffee Growers” he added.
As a way to assure customers of the purity of his product, Jamin sells his caged civet coffee under the label “JM” which uses only pure Arabica and Robusta beans, without any addiditves. “My product is pure coffee, without the mixture of rice and corn,” he said. JM produces up to 5 tons of coffee per month. (BTN/kmb)www.bali-travelnews.com
